The volunteer program at Stan Hywet shines with its own history, tradition of service, dedication, and growth in numbers.  The organization began in 1957 with a few dedicated civic leaders and now boasts more than 1,200 volunteers assisting to keep Stan Hywet operating and thriving.  Our volunteers are from many backgrounds and interests and give an combined total of 65,000 hours of service annually. The Volunteer Department places volunteers in more than 16 traditional areas.  From youth groups, galas, and gardening to store assistance, museum interpretation, and hospitality, there are many ways our volunteers help to ensure the future of Stan Hywet.  Before becoming active, volunteers are required to participate in a General Volunteer Orientation Program offered monthly.
