FULL-TIME 

Controller  The Controller is responsible for managing the accounting for all financial assets and liabilities and continuously improving standards of accounting and record keeping according to GAAP guidelines. This position manages the daily Accounting operations and assists the President & Executive Director in providing financial recommendations to further the institution and report accurate financial information to the Board of Directors and associated committees. Daily oversight of all accounting functions includes accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting. The Controller partners with leadership to develop and implement a multi-year financial plan, incorporating data analysis and industry trends to optimize revenue streams from admissions, memberships, events, and other sources. The Controller also collaborates in establishing and monitoring a multi-year endowment growth plan to ensure long-term financial sustainability.

Additional responsibilities include:
-Implementation of a financial transparency plan that includes clear and accessible reporting for stakeholders, fostering trust and accountability.
-Ongoing analysis of revenue streams and identification of opportunities for cost savings and improved efficiency.
-Development and implementation of data-driven strategies for admission pricing, membership programs, and other revenue sources.
-Participation in the development and maintenance of a risk management plan.
-Management and maintenance of accounting software and production of accurate financial records.
-Implementation and maintenance of strong internal controls to safeguard financial assets. 

Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in accounting is required. A CPA license preferred.
-5 years minimum experience in a finance or accounting capacity.
-Experience in non-profit accounting a plus.
-Accrual based accounting experience preferred.
-Prior supervisory and leadership experience required.
-Knowledge of GAAP and practices of nonprofit organizations.

Candidate should possess strong computer skills particularly in Excel, payroll processing software, and accounting packages.

 

The Senior Horticulturalist/Turf Care Specialist is a full-time employee who maintains the highest professional standards of landscape appearance through plant health care and landscape maintenance in assigned garden areas. This person works with a team of staff and volunteers, following landscape maintenance practices in keeping with historic garden preservation, and focusing on the maintenance and recovery of all turf areas on the Estate.

Maintains the weekly mowing schedules, assists with the care and maintenance of turf equipment, pruning, chainsaw work, chipping, planting, weeding, and snow removal. Monitors, diagnoses and treats insects, disease and weed conditions. Maintains watering rotation duties throughout the spring, summer and fall. Applies liquid or granular fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides to turf or other areas of the gardens. Schedules irrigation timers and provides supplemental irrigation when needed. Repairs turf with seed and/or sod in order to achieve high quality turf in areas with heavy use.

Qualifications include a degree in Turf, Entomology, Horticulture, Plant Science or equivalent experience, a valid Ohio driver license and pesticide applicator’s license, and 2–3 years of experience in the turf industry. Strong knowledge of disease and insect control, common plant material, and landscape maintenance techniques are essential along with the ability to operate and troubleshoot irrigation systems and various landscaping tools and equipment.

Accountant The accountant is a full-time employee who plays a pivotal role in our finance team, contributing to the management of financial transactions, preparing comprehensive reports that provide a clear picture of the organization’s financial health, and ensuring strict adherence to accounting principles and company policies. Routine responsibilities include account reconciliations, month-end and year-end closes, financial variance research and analysis, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations (cash, prepaids, accruals, fixed assets, intercompany, temporarily restricted, inventory, sales tax, etc.), assistance with cash flow projections, bi-weekly payroll processing, assistance with annual audit and keeping a mindful eye on internal controls and accounting procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP.

Qualified candidates should possess a degree in accounting or finance with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience. A CPA license is preferred. Superior computer skills and Sage or similar accounting software experience required. Experience using Paychex payroll processing is a plus.

Grounds Technician  The Grounds Technician is a seasonal employee that is under the guidance of a senior horticulturalist to complete specific tasks in an assigned garden area. Position performs a variety of basic landscape care such as weeding, watering, pruning and mulching.  Power equipment and hand tools will be used to maintain and preserve the historic grounds for guests to enjoy.
     Qualified candidates should possess knowledge of a variety of plant material and landscape maintenance practices, as well as the ability to operate relevant equipment to perform the job. Must have valid Ohio driver’s license.

Shift Supervisor (Hospitality Coordinator)  The Shift Supervisor (Hospitality Coordinator) is a seasonal employee of Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens who reports to the Director of Guest Operations. This employee provides leadership to the Stan Hywet guest services staff and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day front-line activity. The Hospitality Coordinator is responsible for providing a superior level of hospitality skills to meet the expectations of Stan Hywet’s guests. 

Guest Services A member of the guest services team is a part-time, seasonal employee responsible for supporting the day-to-day front line activity in admissions, outdoor guest service areas, and special events. Qualified candidate will be self-motivated and attentive to detail. Must be able to maintain a professional attitude and demonstrate a superior level of hospitality skills when working with the public, volunteers, museum members and fellow employees.

This is an entry level position. Availability on weekends is required.
