Why We Give
The Seiberling Society
The Seiberling Society is a distinguished group of individuals who have remembered Stan Hywet in their wills or estate plans. Stan Hywet honors the demonstrated leadership and commitment made by members of The Seiberling Society by listing their names in the museum’s Donor Garden and the Annual Report. Members are invited to a special recognition event annually.
Will Bequests
Through your will you may designate to Stan Hywet a specific asset or amount, a percentage of your estate, or any residual amount that is left once all other costs and bequests have been honored. You may also add a bequest as a codicil to an existing estate plan. Your estate may receive significant estate tax savings while still providing for your loved ones.
Bequests can be included in the body of your will, or in a simple inexpensive codicil added to your existing will. Please contact Dan Blakemore at 330.315.3239 for a packet of helpful information.
Sample language for a bequest to Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens:
“I give, devise and bequeath to Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, Inc. (Tax ID# 34-0819149) with offices located at 714 North Portage Path, Akron OH 44303, the sum of ___________ to be used for general purposes.” (or endowment purposes.”)
Life Insurance Policy
A life insurance policy can be used as the gift itself by naming Stan Hywet as the beneficiary of a paid policy, or it can be used as a vehicle to replace assets that were used as a planned gift. Life insurance may also be used to replace gift funds using an income producing gift, such as a charitable gift annuity or trust.
Charitable Gift Annuity
This instrument provides a simple way to make a planned gift to Stan Hywet and generate income for the donor. It is a contract between you and Stan Hywet whereby Stan Hywet agrees to pay you a fixed annuity for life in exchange for an irrevocable interest in the funds remaining. Annuities may also be timed so that payment will not begin until the income is needed, such as at retirement (this is a deferred gift annuity). A minimum of $10,000 is required to establish a gift annuity. For more information including a list of current annuity rates, please contact Julie Caruso at 330.315.3239 or jcaruso@stanhywet.org.
Deferred Charitable Gift Annuity
Donors age 45 years and older can significantly improve future retirement income while making a deferred gift to benefit Stan Hywet. By arranging a simple Deferred Charitable Gift Annuity, one can receive an immediate tax deduction, bypass capital gains tax on appreciated gift assets, often increase return on those assets for retirement, and make a significant legacy gift to support the future of Stan Hywet. Please contact Julie Caruso at 330.315.3239 for a no obligation personalized proposal to learn how you can supplement your retirement income and create a lasting legacy at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens.
Charitable Trusts
Once considered only for the wealthy, charitable trusts have become popular financial tools for many who would like to make a charitable gift to one or more charities while reducing taxes (both today and in the future), eliminate capital gains and establish a meaningful charitable legacy gift. The most common are the Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) that provides a percentage of the trust value as current income for the donor’s lifetime or a term of up to 20 years and the remaining funds to Stan Hywet, and the Charitable Lead Trust (CLT) that provides Stan Hywet with a percentage of the trust assets for a period of years and the remaining funds provided to the donor or other beneficiaries. Charitable trusts can provide win/win results for the donor and their family as well as for Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens.
Please contact the Stan Hywet for further information about planned giving opportunities or membership in The Seiberling Society.
