The Ohio Shakespeare Festival presents Shakespeare's King Lear in the Lagoon area of the estate.
King Lear is ready to retire and must divide his kingdom amongst his 3 daughters: Goneril, Regan and his best beloved Cordelia. But first, Lear demands that each daughter make and overt and public display of their love before they receive their inheritance. Goneril and Regan make beautiful (and deceitful) proclamations of adoration. But Cordelia refuses, insisting her love is more honest and real than any false speeches. Embarassed and furious, Lear disowns Cordelia.
What ensues is Lear's downfall from king to madman in a tangled web of brutality, blindness, betrayal and too-late revelations.
