The Stan Hywet Needlework Guild
The Stan Hywet Needlework Guild (SHNG) is one of Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens' volunteer committees. Organized in 1973 following a series of needlepoint classes on the property, the Needlework Guild supports the work of Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens in many ways. Proceeds from events organized by the SHNG throughout the year, including the Stitchery Showcase and Textile Arts and Artisans Showcase held during Ohio Mart, help to fund restoration projects, and members also volunteer time for textile conservation and similar tasks in the Manor House. The SHNG offers workshops and other programs for members to refine their skills or learn new techniques, and if members wish to share these skills or techniques with the rest of the group, they are presented with the opportunity to teach a workshop/program. Also, to encourage the greater community to develop an interest in needlework, the SHNG will offer at least one public workshop a year for adults and children to complete a unique project that can be taken home and enjoyed. Past projects have included a woven wall hanging, an embellished fabric ice cream cone, a denim bag, and more.
